KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The international Rotary president, Kalyan Banerjee made a visit to Kennewick today for a conference at the Red Lion Hotel.
During the seventy years of the region's Rotary Club, it's the first time the international president has come to the Tri-Cities. Rotary's flagship program is working to eradicate polio. Banerjee spoke about the organizations international efforts and commended local events for the cause.
Doreen Kelsey, District Rotary Foundation Chair, says his visit is inspiring members.
"We're a small district and population and we encompass a huge geographic area. To have him in our home town so to speak, from so far away, it energizes Rotarians," says Kelsey.
The local district includes Northern Idaho, Eastern Washington and Eastern British Columbia. Rotary internationally has 1.2 million members.
