Sagebrush Summer Classic Soccer returns to Tri-Cities
PASCO, Wash. -- This weekend the Sagebrush Summer Classic soccer tournament returned to the Tri-Cities. The tournament takes place at the TRAC facility in Pasco.
The tournament, formerly known as the Sagebrush Shootout, was a premier soccer tournament that drew hundreds of teams in the 1990's and early 2000's. It used to be held in Richland. It ended in 2004 after twenty-four years. 69 teams are competing this year. The event brings in an estimated $400,000 to the area.
"This tournament came back two years ago as a different name and then that tournament, the Sagebrush Shootout, which is what it was called was a really big tournament back in the 90's and early 2000's. So we wanted to bring part of that name back with the tournament here. We're glad that we can bring a lot of teams from out of town - some from Oregon and Washington to bring some money into the Tri-Cities too," said David Archibald, tournament director.
