Red Cross needs more blood donors

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Red Cross says it has reached critically low levels for several blood types in our area.

Administrators say they need more O-positive, O-negative, B-negative, and A-negative blood. They say the distribution of these blood types is outpacing the number of people donating.

They especially need O-negative blood, which is the universal blood type they can give to anyone. They say a single unit of blood can save three lives.

"You truly are helping save a life and that's a... There's no... There's no other way to put it. You're helping save a life," says Robert Krug with the Red Cross.

To donate, you must be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds, and be in general good health. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by visiting their website, here.
