Sundowns Training Center lease termination

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- There's an update on the future of the Sundowns Training Center at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

Last week, we told viewers that a misunderstanding over insurance payments was resolved, and the facility would stay open. But now, it appears that Bob Lawrence's lease has been terminated, and he must move out. Lawrence says the county issued a press release citing three reasons for the termination, including not paying his bills. But Lawrence says he stayed on top of his bills and is shocked by the termination.

"There's a lot of reasons that the county could probably come up with to terminate someone as myself here. There's also equally as many reasons and probably way more they could find a reason to keep us here. The main reason is for the benefit of the people in this community," says Lawrence.

Lawrence's attorney sent a letter to the county saying the county has violated the duty of good faith and fair dealing in the contract, and has painted Lawrence in a negative light.

We spoke to Commissioner Jim Beaver Monday, but he told us he could not comment because of the possibility of pending legal action.
