Regional PFD could make decision on projects

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. -- The Tri-Cities Regional Public Facilities District board will Wednesday night to possibly make a decision on one of four large projects in the area.

The board will ask voters to support one or more of the projects with a .01 or a .02 sales tax increase.

Those four projects include either building an aquatic center at the TRAC, or a performing arts center somewhere in the Tri-Cities. Expanding the Three Rivers Convention Center. Or financially supporting the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center.

The aquatics center was a popular choice for some residents, "we got the park over here, the playground of dreams, and there are a lot of people that use this little water area over here and it gets overcrowded a lot," explains Joshua Peterson of Kennewick.

Others like Lana Chmua also like an aquatics center but would be happy with a performing arts center. "The performing arts would be great option for kids development. It would be great."

The board expects to make a decision based on a report from consultant E. V. Hovee.
