Yakima Bears welcome new players from all over

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Friday opens the Northwest League baseball season. The Yakima Bears start on the road in Eugene. A lot of the new players already have a bit of travel under their belts. Their hometowns range from Dominican Republic to South Korea to the opposite corner of the United States.

Not just the Northwest League but the northwest region will be a new adventure for some of these ball players.

"I'm really excited. Me and Kerry [Jenkins] drove up here, and it took about 21 hours, a long trip out here. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I drove in. It's a beautiful town. The weather is great right now, and I'm excited to be here and start off the season," said Joe Loftus, an outfielder from Savage, Minn.

"It's a new experience for me. I'm a long ways from home, but I'm enjoying it so far," added Derrick Stultz, a pitcher from Tampa, Fla.
