Safeway shooting suspect turns himself in

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A man accused of shooting another man outside a Safeway parking lot in Yakima last week is behind bars.

Yakima police say 37-year-old Anastacio Lepe came down to the police station and turned himself in on Saturday.

Lepe is accused of shooting a man outside the Safeway store on North 5th Avenue last Thursday.

Police say 25-year-old Jaime Partida was shot in the chest and arm after the two men argued over a cell phone.

Detectives released a surveillance photo taken from inside Safeway after Lepe left the scene.

"Based on the information we have from the investigation thus far, there was a dispute over the ownership of the cell phone. That in itself was what resulted in the shooting," explained Captain Rod Light, with the Yakima Police Department.

Capt. Light says Lepe faces a charge of first degree assault.

He made his first court appearance on Monday. The judge set his bail at $100,000.
