Virtual dementia tour gives people a look into patients' minds

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Highgate Senior Living in Yakima is hoping to give people a first hand look into the world Alzheimer's and Dementia.

They're holding their virtual dementia tour this evening. Participants are dressed with goggles that simulate failing vision and earphones playing distracting sounds.

They're then challenged to remember and perform five everyday tasks. One participant we talked to says she could only remember one thing she was asked to do.

"When I think about doing it for 20 and they do it all day, it's... I don't think I could do it," says Participant Cheryl Miles.

Highgate is still offering the tours right now. Testing is happening in the Ledgestone Hotel on North Fair Avenue until seven tonight.
