YAKIMA, Wash.-- A food and cash drive to help local food banks throughout the Yakima Valley is going on Saturday.

The Dairy Farmers of Washington and Northwest Harvest are working together to raise much needed goods and revenue for local food banks.

People are encouraged to donate items like canned fruits and vegetables.

Rosemary Rief of Northwest Harvest says in the past these food drives have collected a lot of goods.

"Our local dairy farmers here in the Yakima Valley, they are so supportive of the local food banks through Northwest Harvest that each year they do some event," said Rief.

The food drive will be at the Fred Meyer store on North 40th Avenue in Yakima, Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
