RICHLAND, Wash. -- Hanford's Vit plant has been quiet for three days. No work is going on thanks to a power outage.
The electricity was knocked out Saturday afternoon, and as of Monday, the power was still out.
According to Vit plant officials, they say a brief but violent storm that rolled through the area on Saturday caused the outage, "This was just an act of mother nature and it was unusual and we did suffer a power outage or power interruption because of it," explains Suzanne Heaston.
The power outage meant around 1,200 workers had an involuntary day off. Managers hope to have power restored to the waste treatment plant as soon as Tuesday.
The plant is asking workers to call the hotline at 373 -3333 to find out if work is delayed or canceled for another day.
