ELLENSBURG, Wash.-  Police say they've caught the man responsible for five arson fires in Ellensburg.

On June 26th, at approximately 6:30 p.m., 20-year-old Ellensburg resident Zachary T. Vantuyl was taken into custody by Ellensburg Police Department Detectives and booked on two counts of arson 1st degree, two counts of arson 2nd degree and one count of reckless burning 1st degree.

Over the past two months, the City of Ellensburg had suffered five arson fires within the city limits; two of which were occupied dwellings, a church, a food bank and a barn at the fairgrounds.

Police say the resulting fires caused in excess of $325,000 worth of damage to personal and government property.

The first arson occurred back on April 23, 2012.

The Chief of Police says Vantuyl's arrest was the culmination of good, old-fashioned police work.
