YAKIMA, Wash.-- An electrical fire damaged an abandoned house in Yakima early this morning.
Firefighters got a call about smoke coming from a house on the 700 block of Fair Avenue before 2:30. A Yakima police car also spotted the smoke and checked to see no one was in the building. When firefighters arrived, they found most of the flames confined to the kitchen.
"This was pretty simple... Thank goodness nobody was hurt, none of the firefighters or police officers were hurt... And it went out fairly easy," says Yakima Fire Battalion Chief Tom Schneider.
Firefighters managed to put out the blaze in only 20 minutes. They estimate the fire did about $10,000 to $15,000 worth of damage to the building and they say most of that is smoke damage.
