Timmy Bowden Found

CRESENT ISLAND, Wash.-- The search for 14-year-old Timmy Bowden came to a close Saturday after his body was found just after 2pm.

After a week long search and over one thousand man hours into the recovery mission, Timmy Bowden's body was spotted by a citizen boater on the shore of Crescent Island on the Columbia River.

Timmy was last seen late last Saturday night when a boat he was on sank near Hood Park in Burbank.

When the boater saw the body he contacted Walla Walla County that already had search boats on the water at the time looking for him. They responded immediately and Columbia Basin Search and Rescue followed. The Walla Walla County coroner identified the body.

Additional volunteers were searching Saturday and Timmy's aunt, Cindy Edden, was hopeful they'd find him.

"Everyday is harder. Everyday that we don't find him is harder. We have cadaver dogs out here today so that's a blessing. We're really hoping that with that they'll find him," says Edden.

Walla Walla County Sheriff John Turner says, he hopes people can learn from this tragedy and put on life jackets prior to getting on a boat and not just plan to after boarding.

"I just have very high hopes that these deaths aren't in vain and they bring very much to the public's awareness that need to use safe boating practices," says Turner.

Timmy's family has created a memorial fund for Timmy at Gesa. If you would like to donate you can go to a Gesa branch and mention this fund. Any remaining money after the memorial will be donated to a water safety group or other foundations.
