DOE announces additional B Reactor tour seats available

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. – The U.S. Department of Energy has made additional seats available for tours of the B Reactor National Historic Landmark this July and August.

The four-hour tour allows the public a firsthand view of the world's first full scale plutonium production reactor at the Hanford Site in Washington State.  B Reactor, which DOE first made available for tours in 2009, has been visited by residents from all 50 states and 48 countries.

Legislation being considered in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives would make Hanford's B Reactor a part of a new Manhattan Project National Historic Park interpreted by the National Park Service.

All tours begin and end at the B Reactor Tour Headquarters located at 2000 Logston Blvd. in Richland, Wash., off of Hwy. 240.  Tours are free of charge and are open to visitors 12 years of age or older.  Participants do not need to be a U.S. citizen to attend, and cameras are welcome.

Tour registration is available online at http://manhattanprojectbreactor.hanford.gov/ or can made by calling the B Reactor Tour Headquarters at (509) 376-1647 from 8:00 a.m. –  4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
