$13,600 Raised for Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Fair

Posted: Updated:

MESA, Wash., – Mesa dairy farmer Case VanderMeulen's "$1 a Gallon Milk Challenge" raised $13,600 for Columbia Basin Junior Livestock during June Dairy Month.

For the second year in a row, VanderMeulen's Coulee Flats Dairy and JC's Mesa Grocery offered $1 off the retail price of any gallon of real dairy milk.

VanderMeulen subsidized the discount to thank local families for their continued support of his dairy just outside of Mesa.

In addition to the $1 off per gallon, VanderMeulen also donated an additional dollar for each gallon of milk purchased to the Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Fair.

1,200 gallons of milk were sold at JC's in June.

The Junior Livestock program provides an opportunity for 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members to raise and sell livestock - beef, lamb, hog or a commercial dairy heifer.  Donations and sponsorships from businesses and individuals in the Columbia Basin are the sole source of revenue to operate and maintain Junior Livestock.

The 2012 Columbia Basin Junior Livestock Fair in Connell is September 6th through the 8th.
