YAKIMA, Wash.-- A Yakima woman was shot in the back early Thursday morning while she was lying in her bed.
Police say Magaly Alejandra, 26, was in her home on the 1,100 block of South Sixth Avenue when a car full of people opened fire on another vehicle just down the street.
Police say one of the stray bullets went through the victim's home, hitting her in the back.
Alejandra's 11 month old daughter was in the room with her. YPD says the shooting was gang related, but she was not the intended victim.
"When there's collateral damage out there involving innocent victims, they don't care and that's a very sad and unfortunate part of the problem that we're trying to deal with," said Capt. Rod Light.
Capt. Light says the victim was taken the hospital and is in satisfactory condition.
She is not tied to any gangs.
