KENNEWICK, Wash.-- There's a lot more dangerous activity on the roads in the summertime. Washington State Patrol says when this time of year hits they start seeing higher numbers of accidents and fatalities.
In the third quarter of 2011 WSP investigated about five hundred more injury collisions than previous quarters, thirty-four more fatal collisions and over thirty-three hundred more aggressive driving contacts.
Washington State Patrol Lt. Mike Saunders says there are more people on the road locally during the summer.
"July is one of the worst because of the nicer weather and the activities that are taking place. We live in a beautiful area and people love to come here and do things. It increases our traffic volumes."
Lt. Saunders also says with the increase of outdoor activities and parties, drinking is a contributing factor to the higher injury and fatal collision numbers. WSP encourages drivers to be aware of the summer months driving dangers and be alert on the road.
