West Valley Fire Department Awarded Grant

WEST VALLEY, Wash. -- West Valley Fire Department was awarded a FEMA SAFER grant of $243,496.00 for recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. 

This grant funds one full time position for the next four years covering five essential job functions; 1) Instructing our high school firefighting course during the school year, 2) serve as the high school cadet program coordinator, 3) serve as a volunteer coordinator for retention of current members, 4) recruit new members to the district and 5) serve as a front line firefighter responding with our current day shift. 

The grant funding covers all wages and benefits for this position for a period of four years with no matching funds from the District. 

 This is the third grant FEMA has awarded West Valley Fire Department in the past year; September 2011 the Department received $29,783 to install smoke detectors for property owners within the District's boundaries, January 2012 we received $343,648 to purchase new breathing apparatus, upgrade our mobile air support vehicle and install a new air filling station.
