YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's City Council is moving forward with two major construction projects.
At their meeting last night, the city council approved an environmental impact study on extending East H Street over Interstate-82 and into Terrace Heights.
They also agreed to spend $150,000 to keep the design firm working on the final plans for the Martin Luther King Boulevard underpass.
"And we've been fast track completing the design... And then incorporating lessons learned on the Lincoln into the design on MLK," says City Engineer Doug Mayo.
The city expects to start work on the underpass by January next year, and have it finished by the summer of 2014.
They say the H Street extension is still just in the idea stage and has to clear several hurdles before it could be approved for construction.
