Fundraiser for Selah couple

Posted: Updated:

Selah, WASH.--Friends and neighbors hosted a community yard sale Saturday for an elderly couple who lost their home in a fire.

The yard sale is located at the parking lot of the Red Apple Market in Selah, and will continue until dusk.

The Woelk's home was destroyed around three weeks ago after a lightning strike sparked a grass fire that moved onto their property.

Jeanie Knox, one of the organizers of the yard sale, said, "They lost everything. They had the shirt and pants that he was wearing and the dress she was wearing, and they found two knick-knacks. Everything else was gone from 45 years."

Friends said the couple did not have insurance.

Over 100 people contributed to the yard sale and Knox said they hit the $2,000 mark by 12 p.m.

Knox said the couple feels blessed to see all the community support.
