Admissions up at CWU

Posted: Updated:

Ellensburg, WASH.-- Despite a hike in tuition costs, freshman enrollment is up for Central Washington University.

CWU admits roughly around 2,500 students each year, and this year the incoming class is up by 5 percent.

A spokesperson for CWU said even though tuition increased by nearly $1,200 the students keep coming because the University works hard to maintain its strong faculty and academic programs.

"Our overall enrollment statistics this coming year, we've been very pleased," said George Clark, the chief financial officer at CWU. "Freshman enrollment is up 5 percent. We project about 1,425 students."

There's about 1,400  transfer students this year and the majority of students, around 8,000 are returning students.

Staff said this is fairly flat enrollment growth, but CWU is holding their own.
