Timmy Bowden's father stopped from passing out flyers at Water Follies

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Jim Bowden, father of Timmy Bowden, tried to hand out some flyers Sunday at Water Follies, but security told him he couldn't.

Timmy Bowden was a 14-year-old boy who drowned in the Columbia River. Jim Bowden's flyers had information on them about water safety and donating money so he can spread awareness about the issue.

However, Water Follies security notified him he had to stop because you must have a permit to promote anything money related. Bowden didn't prepare ahead of time and did not have the necessary permit.

"I didn't plan on my son drowning. This was a last spur the moment, trying to get enough people on board to sponsor or donate for my son so it's not a waste. It's something good coming out of something bad," says Jim Bowden.

Bowden plans to cover his truck with safety awareness signs and visit schools to talk about wearing life jackets.
