Oregon Parks and Rec accepting comments on alcohol rule
UMATILLA INDIAN RESERVATION, Ore. - The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department wants to hear your comments about the proposed amendments to the park rules that prohibit possession or use of alcoholic beverages at the Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site.
The site is part of the ancestral homeland of the Nez Perce Tribe, and is a sacred place to the Nez Perce Tribe, the confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
A temporary ban on alcohol has been in place since the park opened in 2009. The proposed amendments will make the ban permanent.
