KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Issues over size and plumbing have forced the shelter called "Ken and Theresa's Place" to move.
Organizers planned to open their new location in the Clearwater West office building behind Jacksons' sports bar.
But their temporary location didn't have showers and bathrooms for clients, leaving public bathrooms as the only option. That didn't please some people from nearby businesses.
"Because we had public bathrooms there, and that way it's hard to have people when they want to shave and stuff use a public bathroom and I think sometimes people had shaved in there and that sort of caused a concern when somebody was using a public bathroom and somebody's shaving," explains Steve Gaulke, the shelters director.
The new building for the day shelter will be next to the Winco on Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick.
Unlike the temporary location, shelter staff say there's more space available, and two bathrooms with showers.
