Women golfers hold tournament for breast cancer awareness
RICHLAND, Wash. -- The women of Meadow Springs Country Club hit the fairways Tuesday to raise money for breast cancer research.
The annual golf tournament is a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen rally for the cure.
Family and friends, and breast cancer survivors all wore pink as they released a bundle of balloons after lunch.
Organizers say the tournament is part of a team effort to raise awareness. "This year we've had 100 golfers, we also had a 24 bridge player participation in the day, and currently right now the men's association is also having a golf event to support rally for the cure, so it's involved all of us," explains tournament chair Ellen Hughes.
The Komen foundation will fund a three year grant on behalf of the Meadow Springs Golf Association. That money will be used to examine cancer therapies to stop tumors.
