Richland School Board Delays Construction Project

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.

The Richland School Board has decided to delay building a new elementary school to save tax-payer money. The board has several construction projects on the table, but earlier this month found out the price tag for those projects was a little higher than expected at 116 million dollars.

During Tuesday's meeting, the board decided the best way to keep the cost low was to delay one of the projects.

"We looked at the different elementary school locations and where our student growth is and where we have students right now. The best location to put a new elementary school is in South Richland, so we eliminated the West Richland option, " said Richland School Board President Rick Jansons.

The Richland School Board will save about 20 million dollars by putting the school on hold. However, they're still looking for ways to cut costs even more before presenting the bond to voters in February.

The next meeting will be held on August 14th at 6:30 at the Administrative Service Center on Snow Avenue in Richland. The public is welcome to attend and give comments.
