Humane Society of Central Washington competing for $100,000

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Humane Society of Central Washington is still in the running for a $100,000 prize.

In the second leg of the contest, the shelter will compete against other shelters nationwide to get the most animals adopted by the end of October.

They're hoping to save the lives of at least 1700 animals. Organizers say they're looking for people to help out any way they can.

"If you've been thinking about adding a new pet to your family, now is the time... But we also know that some people have enough pets in their household, so why not make a short term commitment to foster an animal?" says Humane Society Outreach Coordinator Erica Seaver-Engel.

The shelter will officially kick off their adoption campaign with a "Community Tailgate Paw-ty" at their main office this Saturday from nine am until five pm.
