Lots of exposure for Tri-Cities region

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The accolades just keep pouring in. Recent articles in the Fiscal Times, The Seattle Times and Seattle Magazine all tout the region as one of the best places to live and play.

Those magazines mention everything from kayaking the Columbia, to the region's many wineries.

The Fiscal Times named the Tri-Cities as the number one place in the country people are moving to in 2012.

"The weather, of course, is fabulous," said Kennewick resident Christie Steiger. "I'm comfortable here. It's easy to get around, five minutes to anywhere."

And the list goes on. The Seattle Times piece talked up the Country Mercantile in Pasco and Fiscal Times gave props to local health care and tourism efforts.

President and CEO of the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau, Kris Watkins, said this kind of exposure will likely bring more business to the area.

"All of those things are very much a positive," said Watkins. "Those are things that economic development agencies and our jurisdictions and our cities can pitch when they're recruiting business to the region."

Seattle Magazine also named several wineries from Benton City to Yakima as "Must-Try Local Wines."

Steiger said that (and more) is what keeps her here.

"All the festivals, wine festivals," said Steiger. "It's wine country. It's a great place to raise a family, there's all kinds of things for kids. It's just a great community."

The Tri-Cities population is estimated at just over 250,000 people. The Fiscal Times reported it increased by a little more than 4% in the last year and many expect that number to continue growing.
