KENNEWICK, Wash.-  The Mid-Columbia Libraries' held a book signing with International Best Selling Author Matt Bondurant Thursday night at the Kennewick Library.

It's all part of the Mid-Columbia Libraries' annual Summer Reading Program to encourage residents to read for enjoyment and help kids keep up their reading skills over summer break.

Bondurant talked about his novel "The Wettest County in the World," that tells the true tale about his infamous ancestors, three bootlegging brothers during the Prohibition.

He says, "I want the readers to feel as if they are experiencing something about Franklin County during this time and what it was like to live in this period.  What a young 18-year-old boy thought of and what kinds of things they wanted and desired.  Those are all things that I hope I've kept accurate."

His book was a "New York Times" Editors' Choice, and was named one of the 50 Best Books of the Year by the "San Francisco Chronicle."

It's also the basis for the major motion picture "Lawless," coming to theaters this month starring Jessica Chastain, Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, and Mia Wasikowska.

Bondurant's most recent novel "The Night Swimmer," hits shelves the first week in August.

Leading up to his visit, the library gave away several hundred copies of "The Wettest County in the World," sponsored by Friends of Mid-Columbia Libraries.
