Mid-Columbia Libraries receives grant for new books

PASCO, Wash., -- Newly purchased books were delivered to the Boys & Girls club in Pasco today to commemorate the Mid-Columbia Libraries and Columbia Center Rotary winning a $4,000 grant for improving child literacy.

The Rotary International awarded the district grant to local small libraries and agencies serving at risk or low income kids.

More than 800 brand-new books now line the shelves at the Boys & Girls Club in Pasco.

Rotary district governor Michelle Lee says this was the right opportunity.

"For the Rotary Foundation to then give back to a Rotary club and let them do a project within their own community," says Lee.  "We're excited to be here today to give to this community all of the books that will be available for the kids."

With the grant funds, Mid-Columbia Libraries were able to purchase thousands of high quality, age appropriate books for kids to read while visiting area agencies.
