KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The Tri-Cities area Rotary clubs held a kick-off event Friday for the Great Mid-Columbia Duck Race. Tickets for the race went on sale Monday.

The Rotary uses the proceeds from the annual duck race to make sizable donations to local charities. The duck race is now twenty-four years old and more than fifty charities have benefited from the community's generosity.

This year, they'll be dumping forty-two thousand ducks in the Columbia River and winners will get some big prizes including a brand new car.

Randy Schneider, who calls himself Head Duck and works with the event, says everyone's a winner with this event.

"You buy a duck ticket for five dollars and right away you're a winner because you know that five dollars is going to come back and be used in the community of good deeds," says Schneider.

Twenty local students will also receive scholarships from the Rotary.

Duck racing tickets are available at several locations around the Tri-Cities. You can purchase them at Cousins Restaurant, Garrison's Home Appliance, Grigg's/Ace Hardware in Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, Ranch & Home in Kennewick, and Toyota of Tri-Cities.
