West Valley fire damages multiple homes

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH.--Firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire around 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the 2000 block of 67th Avenue.

The fire was in close proximity to multiple homes. Firefighters said it is unknown exactly how many homes were affected at this time.

Captain Brandon Dorenbush of the Yakima Fire Department said, "The initial call came in as a brush fire with exposures, and again it extended into one house and severely damaged it."

James Turner, a witness, said, "I saw the house that the flames caught, but then off to the left hand side I saw a giant wall of flames that I couldn't see through."

No injuries were reported and firefighters are currently working on putting an estimate together for the amount in damages.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
