SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. - The Washington State Department of Transportation will be doing rock blasting near the snowshed next week.
Crews say the blasting could bring-down a substantial amount of debris onto Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass, resulting in a closure that could last longer than an hour.
The Washington State DOT is closing the pass at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, from Hyak (milepost 54) to the Price Creek Sno-Park (milepost 61). A reopening time depends on how long it takes to remove large pieces of debris, and for crews to evaluate any damage to the highway.
Drivers traveling on the evening of the 16th should plan for more than 2 hours of added travel time. There will also be closures on Monday, Aug. 13, Tuesday, Aug. 14, and Wednesday, Aug. 15, 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Due to increased construction activity and rolling slowdown during the day, drivers should plan for added travel time Monday through Friday. Exit 54 westbound is closed and will reopen on Aug. 20.
