New West Valley library opens

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The new Richard E. Ostrander Library opened its doors in West Valley today.

It will replace the older Summitview Avenue building near Wray's Chalet. Yakima County moved it to 72nd Avenue to stop paying a land lease for the old library. The new building is also closer to more schools in the area. One group was so excited to see it finished. They lined up early in the morning so they could get in first.

"We were excited about this new library being opened because it had more books, it was a bigger space... And it was closer to his house," says Elijah Mitchell.

Organizers say in addition to its larger size; the new building is also a big technical upgrade with a larger computer section and built-in wifi.
