YAKIMA, Wash.-- Sunnyside's Interim City Manager appeared in Yakima County Court this afternoon to face theft charges.

Frank Sweet is accused of taking his work laptop and hard drive and destroying city files after leaving his job as Selah's city administrator earlier this year.

Police searched his house last night. They found the laptop and the hard drive, and what appeared to be city files.

Sweet claims he did delete and move some emails to his computer. He also told police that former Mayor Robert Jones let him have the computer and hard drive because it was "worthless".

Sweet faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property, and taking or injuring public records.

He was released from jail this afternoon.
