ELMER CITY, Wash. (AP) - A Colville Tribe spokeswoman says a brush fire that has burned 12 square miles - more than 7,800 acres - has reached the small Eastern Washington community of Elmer City near Grand Coulee Dam.

Spokeswoman Cathy Moses said Wednesday night that officials have told more residents to evacuate but she didn't have precise numbers. Earlier in the day, she said three homes were evacuated and nine homes were threatened.

Moses says one old barn burned. She did not know of any homes that have burned.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening and has closed Highway 155 near Elmer City. No cause has been found.

Moses says bulldozers have dug lines around the threatened structures. No injuries have been reported.

Elmer City had a population of about 240 in the 2010 Census.
