BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Governor Gregoire has declared a state of emergency, freeing up not only funding, but resources to help in the Taylor Bridge battle. Wednesday, 800 firefighters were counted, working near Cle Elum. Five strike units, trucks and a water tender were sent from Benton and Franklin Counties.

Benton County Fire District One Deputy Chief Mike Harris says 12 people left Tuesday evening to work the overnight shift. "We have a water tender driver from Franklin County #3 as a career firefighter, and all the rest are volunteers that took vacation days from their work to go and assist in their firefighter efforts," says Harris.

They are coming from Prosser, Benton City, West Richland, Kennewick, Pasco and Franklin County. Harris says their camp is based out of the Cle Elum Middle School, they are expected to return Saturday evening.
