Benton Franklin Red Cross getting calls from people wanting to help

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. --Even though the Taylor Bridge Fire damage is about two hours from the Tri-Cities, the Benton-Franklin chapter of the Red Cross has been flooded with calls from people wanting to help.

The Executive Director, Jeanne Jelke says they cannot take any physical items, *just* monetary donations. She says you can donate by going to this website, or send them in to 7202 West Deschutes Avenue Kennewick, WA 99336. Texting "Red Cross" to 90999, will add a $10 donation to your cell phone bill.

Jelke says their main focus is communicating with the Red Cross in Ellensburg and Yakima, providing shelter and feeding the victims. She also says they have volunteers on standby...

"We live in an area where we can be faced with the same kind of issues, so do some preparedness for yourself," says Jelke

Jelke says she'll have a better grasp on how many volunteers will be sent once the fire is contained. She says they do need more volunteers and they provide free training, but that training must be done ahead of time.

KENNEWICK: Good news for all of you bargain shoppers out there, Goodwill is opening a brand new store in Kennewick sometime next year. Thanks to a 3.1 million dollar loan and lots of planning, a very large patch of dirt will be home to a 20,000 square foot Goodwill; half warehouse and processing, half retail. The Kennewick store will be closing, however. You can still say, out with your old couches, TV's and clothing, and *into someone else's hands, just at a different location. ...More >>
