YAKIMA, Wash.-- A car crash at the intersection of 40th Avenue and Fruitvale Boulevard this morning ended with one car on fire.

Yakima Police say a Dodge Intrepid racing up Fruitvale at more than 60 miles an hour ran a red light and smashed into the side of another car. The Intrepid then burst into flames.

Firefighters put the fire out quickly and both drivers escaped without any serious injuries.

"When you get a violent crash like this with the kind of speed that is obviously involved.. You know at this point, we're very lucky it wasn't a fatality," says Yakima Police Captain Rod Light.

The entrance to Highway 12 was closed off for about 90 minutes while police cleared the scene.

Police say they're investigating the Intrepid's driver for drugs and alcohol.
