Major power lines damaged in Taylor Bridge Fire

NEAR CLE ELUM, Wash.-- Along with the over sixty homes, and other structures this devastating fire has damaged, a Washington state energy provider is also working to try to restore power to the countless homes along the fire lines.

Puget Sound Energy crews are working in the fire lines trying to fix two badly damaged electrical lines that they say have cut power to a lot of homes in the burn area.

"When people left they had power, and they were evacuated. So we don't have the normal callback system that we normally would have in a storm," said Brian Lenz with PSE.

Lenz says they're not sure how many homes are affected by outages but they do know that two of their transmission lines have been badly damaged by the fire.

In fact, several poles and lines have fallen and been destroyed since the blaze broke out Monday.

"The 230,000 volt line is more of a regional cross-Cascade transmission line," said Lenz.

Both transmission lines carry hundreds of thousands of volts to different sub-stations around Kittitas County and without them, PSE is forced to pull power from other areas, straining the system.

Right now, they have crews working to fix the issue but the fire is still preventing others from getting in.

Lenz says if people don't have power when they return home, they should call their energy provider and let them know.
