WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Police have arrested a man for theft and discovered a marijuana grow operation in his basement in Walla Walla.

20-year-old Nicolas Almiron from Argentina is being charged with theft, possession of stolen property, a stolen firearm, trafficking in stolen property and possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

Police discovered a marijuana grow operation in the basement of the home he was renting on South 8th Avenue and more than 100 stolen items taken over the last 4 months - totaling over $15,000.

"The vast quantity of vehicle prowls that they did and how many times they were bale to get away with it at local merchants. It's because very few businesses will check identification when a credit card is presented," says Tim Bennett of the Walla Walla Police Department.

ICE has placed a hold on Almiron, who claims to be in the country on a student visa.
