Friday night's SR 397 fire burns one thousand acres

NEAR FINLEY,Wash.-- Friday night's fire at mile post six on SR 397 was fully put out by 4:30am Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to the brush fire just before 8:30pm last night. Dozers were sent out around the fire to contain it and let it burn out on it's own.

One thousand acres were scorched by the fire. Firefighters believe this fire also could've been started by target shooting.

Captain Devin Helland from Benton County Fire District 1 says it's currently peak season for fires and people need to take fire precautions seriously.

"We're at extreme fire damage which usually happens for two to three weeks out of the year and this is our time right now. So absolutely no burning allowed at all anywhere. So just be really careful out there. Any cutting, welding, shooting," says Helland.

Benton County Fire District is investigating the cause and a crew is checking up on the site to look for hot spots.
