Firefighters respond to basement fire at Blue Ridge Elementary

WALLA WALLA, Wash., -- City of Walla Walla firefighters with the assistance of Fire District 4 and College Place Fire Department, responded to a fire in the kitchen and cafeteria area at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Walla Walla Monday morning. 

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The school's fire alarm sounded at approximately 8:15 a.m. and all staff on site evacuated promptly. There were no students in the building at the time of the fire.  The building is damaged from smoke and water.

The school's fire sprinkler system activated to help contain the fire. 

The building is not open for use until further notice and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
