Yakima City Council discussing adult business moratorium

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's City Council will discuss a six-month moratorium on adult business applications tomorrow night.

They declared the moratorium after a judge's ruling on a case involving an application for a strip club on North First Street. The council had denied the owner's application based on compatibility with businesses in the area. However, the judge ruled that violated state law.

The council is now looking to update their policies to match the state's requirements.

"I just don't think it's appropriate for this area, but we'll follow the letter of the law, we just have to figure out and get a moratorium on the licensing," says city council member Maureen Adkinson.

Adkinson hopes they can find a "clear line" on how to zone adult businesses in the law. The council will discuss it at their meeting tomorrow night at six pm at city hall.
