Cle Elum, WASH.--Fire crews say they're hoping to have the Taylor Bridge Fire fully contained by later this week.
Fire officials say the fire is now 90 percent contained with over 23,000 acres charred. However, strong winds will likely prevent fire crews from reaching full containment until Friday.
Firefighters said Monday's burn out operation was extremely successful in reducing fuel.
The biggest challenge for crews Tuesday was dealing with the strong winds.
Over a thousand firefighters are still battling this blaze.
Fire Information Officer, Tim Perciful, said, "The initial responders did an incredible job. The terrain, the conditions, made the fire spread really fast."
Kittitas County Emergency Management has reported that 51 homes have been destroyed so far.
They are still investigating the cause, but they do know construction crews were working at the Taylor Bridge when the fire broke out.
