Local emergency dispatchers raise money for fire victims

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Emergency dispatchers in Yakima held an all day fundraiser Thursday to help the victims of the Taylor Bridge fire.

SunComm employees barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs, sold baked goods, and held a raffle at the Yakima Police Department's Special Operations building.

All the money raised will be given to the Red Cross to help the victims.

Organizers say they're happy to help any way they can.

"It's nice to be hands on, to be able to have a little more control, to be able to really feel like you can do something just to help out and to help people who have lost so much," said Kristi Castillo, a dispatcher with SunComm.

Castillo says they raised over $2,000 during their day long fundraiser.
