The Yakima Bears beat the Everett AquaSox 4-3 Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium in Everett, Washington. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bears.
A walk and a double produced an Everett run in the first inning. A trio of singles brought home another run in fourth inning to give the AquaSox a 2-0 lead. A solo home run from Patrick Kivlehan in the fifth inning stretched AquaSox lead to 3-0. The Bears scored thanks, in part, to errors in the sixth and seventh innings. Kevin Medrano reached on a single, stole second, and came home on a throwing error by the first baseman in the sixth inning. The Bears had three singles in the seventh inning, but Mark Ginther reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an errant throw by the third baseman. The Bears took the lead in the ninth inning when Michael Lang followed Ginther's walk with a two-run home run over the left-field wall that gave the Bears the 4-3 lead that the team was able to hold on to the rest of the way.
Bears starter Daniel Watts allowed all three AquaSox runs on six hits and two walks in his six innings. Cody Wheeler tossed a shutout seventh inning behind Watts. Enrique Burgos faced seven batters in two scoreless innings and earned his second-consecutive win.
The Bears outhit the AquaSox 9-8 and Everett committed all three errors in the game. Kevin Medrano went 3-for-5 with a run, a run batted in, and a stolen base. Michael Lang's home run was the only extra-base hit for the Bears on the night.
The Bears now trail the series in Everett 2-1 with two games to play. Game four is scheduled for 7:05 Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. Right-handed pitcher Jose Martinez of the Bears is expected to make his Northwest League debut against lefty Steven Ewing of the AquaSox.
