West Richland man to stay at Eastern State Hospital
KENNEWICK, Wash.- A man accused of killing his elderly grandmother will remain under observation at Eastern State Hospital for at least another six months.
Superior Court Judge Bruce Spanner signed the order Monday extending Adam Williams' stay, and set February 19th for his next appearance in Benton County Court.
Kennewick Police arrested Williams last January after discovering the body of 87-year-old Viola Williams inside her home at the Sun Meadows Mobile Home Park. Detectives say she had been beaten and stabbed to death.
According to court documents, detectives say Williams confessed, saying God directed him to kill his grandmother.
Psychiatrists have declared Williams mentally competent, but not to the degree that he can assist his attorneys prepare his defense. Doctors say with continued treatment they believe Williams will improve.
