Back to back fires in Finley

Posted: Updated:

FINLEY, Wash.-- Two fires broke out in Finley this afternoon just a half-mile apart from each other.

The first fire started in a shed behind a home on Haney Road. Just thirteen minutes after firefighters were dispatched to that fire, they had to send additional resources to a fire behind a home on Finley Road.

That one started in a fiberglass boat and spread to surrounding brush. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it reached a nearby home.

Benton County Fire District 1 Captain Jeff Ripley says, the back to back fires spread resources thin.

"We had to request some additional units from further outside the resource board. Any agency is going to have to do that in the Tri-Cities area. No agency is deep enough to handle every incident they could possibly get in a twenty-four hour period," says Ripley.

A witness near the second fire told Benton County Fire officials that they think they saw a person close to the fire around the time it started.
