Crews put finishing touches on new downtown Yakima sculpture

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Crews put the finishing touches on a new sculpture in downtown Yakima today. You can find it at the corner of Yakima Avenue and Second Street.

It's the last piece of art from internationally known artist Bernard Hosey who died three weeks ago. He made several sculptures for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Yakima Arts Giving Circle paid for the project. They say it symbolizes transcendence.

"It means to go up and beyond, and I think that's perfect for Yakima's downtown, because that's what we need right now, to go up and beyond, improve ourselves, and be a community," says Arts Giving Circle President Mary Place.

The artwork cost $50,000 and was entirely paid for with private money. This is the Arts Giving Circle's third downtown sculpture.
